Standby Generators
A standby generator is one that starts up when
the permanent grid supply fails, and switches off again when
secure supply returns. This can be done automatically with a
device known as an Auto Mains Transfer Panel that can both detect
and switch the supplies.
Note: whenever the supply is switched, there
is a short period of a few seconds where a UPS (Uninterrupted Power
Supply) must bridge the gap if the system is to stay online.
